Just when you thought we were through the pandemic and could see the light at the end of the tunnel, variants of the virus started springing up. The most well-known at the moment, the Delta variant, presents real problems, especially for those in the healthcare sector who are still up-close-and-personal with COVID-19. So, how can you make sure your team is protected from the Delta variant?
The best way to stop the spread of COVID-19 and its variants is by getting as many people vaccinated as possible. While you can’t force your healthcare staff to get vaccinated if they don’t want to, encouraging vaccination whenever you can is a good idea. When your team is fully vaccinated, it makes it that much less likely that any one of you will catch COVID-19 or a variant.
Keep up with masking.
Over the past year or so, one thing became quite clear: Wearing masks helps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The same is true of the Delta variant. Keeping a protective barrier over your mouth and nose prevents germs from entering your body, and it helps to protect others from germs as well. Having a mask policy in place at your facility is one of the best lines of defense against COVID and the Delta variant.
Make handwashing and hand sanitizer a frequent part of the day.
In a healthcare facility, preventing the spread of germs, including viruses, is absolutely essential. Having your entire staff wash their hands frequently and use hand sanitizer is a great way to do just that. If you took away those hand sanitizer stations, it might be time to consider putting them back up. And make sure your team has plenty of access to soap and freshwater for regular hand washing.
Encourage anyone feeling sick to stay home.
Make it clear to your staff that as soon as they feel sick in any way, it’s time to stay home and self-isolate. There’s just no use in risking it. In an area where people are working in close quarters, it’s too easy for the virus to spread.
Follow these steps, and you and your team will get through the Delta variant, just as you did with the original COVID-19 strain. When your team stays safe, your patients do, too.
